Serving Clevelanders Since 1876
Riverside Cemetery was founded in 1876 among the tranquil country farms west of the Cuyahoga River. The outstanding reputation which Riverside Cemetery has developed over its 140 years of service has been a great source of comfort and reassurance to the thousands of persons we have been privileged to serve and continues to earn the cemetery many compliments.
Today, our location is the gateway to the Brooklyn Centre neighborhood, one of Greater Cleveland's oldest and most historic communities. Our heritage mirrors much of Cleveland's history.
Riverside Cemetery is a private association of lot owners. As an Association, it is not owned by any corporation, church, family, or individual(s). It is, and always has been, open to all faiths, nationalities, and backgrounds.
With acres of burial space remaining, Riverside Cemetery will be serving future generations for years to come as we maintain our commitment to keeping Riverside one of the region's premier cemeteries.
“Let us hope that they may abide in decorative beauty long after the hands that set them in place shall be folded in rest, and that when another centennial of our country shall be celebrated by our children’s children, they may rejoice in delightful summer shades and cherish endearing memories of the dead of Riverside.”
- J. M. Curtiss, 1st Superintendent & Clerk of the Riverside Cemetery Assn.
Our Mission
Always consider, and care for, each person selecting Riverside as a member of our extended family much as his or her own family.
Always provide the highest quality maintenance and care of the grounds while allowing families to remember departed members in their preferred manner.
Always serve people with personal consideration, honesty, and in complete confidence without regard to religion, race, or background.
